About

This site is a space to share the results of research conducted by Amy Kipp, as a part of her masters' thesis at the University of Guelph in the Departments of Geography and International Development. This research focuses on volunteer tourism, a form of travel in which individuals typically from the Global North travel to the Global South to engage in volunteer work. Within this sector there exists an uneven gender divide with a four to one ratio of volunteer women to men.

Kipp's thesis explored volunteer tourists’ experiences abroad, analyzing it from a feminist perspective. To read a summary of the research results follow the summary report link at the top of the page, or to read the thesis in its entirety follow the thesis link. Visit the publications page for the most up to date publications resulting from this research. Data for this research was collected during spring and summer of 2016, and Kipp successfully defended her work in June 2017.
